Fieldstone East Trail Work: (Update Spring 2026)
In the spring of 2026, we have contracted with Rabbit Tracks Trail Works to repair the worst of the muddy sections of the Fieldstone East Loop (FSE) trail.
Although 2025 was unusually dry and the trail was in good shape for most of the season, we know that in years past, with more typical rainfall, the Fieldstone East Loop trail had chronically wet, muddy sections that over the years had rapidly eroded, deteriorated, and become increasingly problematic.
We will repair about five sections of the FSE trail, replacing one culvert, repairing many existing ditch lines, and improving the trail’s slope using native materials to better shed rainwater and reduce damaging erosion.
With favorable spring weather, and when the trails dry out sufficiently, we hope to begin trail repairs in mid to late May. These trail repairs will take several weeks to complete, weather contingent. We will post warning signs at both ends of the trail and, for safety’s sake, we will ask that our visitors avoid this trail during the repairs.
Future Trail Work Plans:
In future trail planning, the board of trustees reached out to the Upper Valley Trails Alliance (UVTA) in conjunction with the Vermont Trail Accessibility Hub (VTAH) to conduct a trail assessment on our lower trail, the Meadow Loop. This assessment was done at no cost to the JUPD.
Last October, 2025, a skilled assessment team evaluated our existing trail. The UVTA team then determined what actions would be required to improve our trail access for people with varying mobility. Using this information, a grant application has been submitted to the State for possible funding.
The board of trustees whole-heartedly embraces developing accessible trails and opening up park enjoyment and exploration to more people. JUPD has developed a long-range plan to improve the Meadow Loop in phases and hopes to begin Phase 1 in 2027.
