Property

Mills Riverside Park offers a variety of natural habitats for visitors to explore. A wooden bridge spans the Browns River and gives access to the park’s welcome garden, athletic fields, pavilion, and diverse natural landscapes. Mature trees create a lush riparian buffer along the river, providing secluded spots for wildlife. Open fields with scenic views of Mt. Mansfield offer numerous recreational activities throughout the year. A large, stream-fed pond hosts fish, turtles, and amphibians. Miles of trails lead visitors into the predominantly forested upland areas.

The trail map is available at kiosks and on the park website. One trail heads east through acres of meadow. Here you will find a Monarch Butterfly Waystation and many pollinator-friendly plants.  Canine friends are only permitted to be off-leash in this area. Whatever the season, there is much to see and enjoy at Mills Riverside Park.

History

Mills Riverside Park is named to honor the former landowners, Mert and Grace Mills. They managed the successful South Hill Riverside Campground for many years. On July 14, 1999, the Jericho Underhill Land Trust purchased this 216-acre property and donated a conservation easement to the Vermont Land Trust. This guarantees the lasting protection of the park’s scenic land, sensitive wildlife habitats, and exceptional recreational opportunities.

Mills Riverside Park was transferred to the Jericho Underhill Park District, a two-town municipality, on February 24, 2000. The Jericho Underhill Park District owns Mills Riverside Park, and its Board of Trustees is responsible for the ongoing management.
