The JUPD is required to maintain a 50-foot riparian buffer along the river bank. Ongoing river bed changes/erosion have moved the edge of the river closer to the park than our current 50’ snow fence, so the Board of Trustees is moving the fence to maintain the appropriate buffer.
These changes impact the mowed section of our off-leash area, so the decision was made to reconfigure the off-leash mowed area, making it parallel to the river. The first step is brush hogging the briars to delineate the new off-leash lawn, and ongoing work this spring and summer will yield a new, larger area for off-leash play on a safe, mowed field complete with shade trees.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Riparian Buffer Project!
